For tens of thousands of years, First Nations across the North Pacific Coast have cared for, managed, and stewarded their lands and waters. With ancient place-based governing systems and an unbroken connection to everything that lives within their territories, Indigenous people, cultures and laws serve as a prime example for developing sustainable practices.

The Great Bear Sea PFP and Marine Protected Area network is the result of long term planning, collaboration and stewardship by 17 First Nations along the coast:
